Help continues for people displaced by monsoon waves

RESIDENTS of four coastal areas in the city affected by the monsoon waves on Sept. 13 continue to receive help from the city government.

According Ma. Luisa Bermudo, Davao City Social Services and Development Office (CSSDO) head, 341 individuals from Puroks 2, 3, and 4 in Barangay Matina Aplaya; Purok 6 in Barangay 23-C, Purok 8 in Barangay 21-C, Purok 59 in Seaside Bangkal; and Barangay Talomo Proper were displaced by the raging waves that damaged their houses.

“When the monsoon waves started, we immediately sent them food and non-food assistance. In August, barangays Matina Aplaya, 23-C, 21-C, and Talomo Proper were also affected by monsoon waves,” Bermudo said.

The city government released P2 million to purchase food and non-food items to be distributed to the victims.

“We have given finan

cial assistance to those affected by the monsoon waves last August. Since the affected families by the recent monsoon waves were the same, we no longer gave them financial assistance,” Bermudo said.

Bermudo also said that in the recorded list of the CSSDO, at least 100 houses were thrased by the monsoon waves. Residents, meanwhile, moved to the evacuation centers.

Monsoon waves affected coastal communities between August and September each year. The city government already ancipated this and prepared a budget out of the calamity funds for the victims.
