Hotel receives environmental certification
MARCO Polo Davao continuous to lead in environmental initiatives as it receives Silver Certification from EarthCheck. Last year, the hotel acquired its Bronze Certification which implies that the practices and the business is benchmarked according to standards. The annual audit involves rigorous evaluation on
energy efficiency and conservation; social and cultural management; waste water management and environmentally harmful substance. On its second year, Marco Polo Davao has been awarded Silver rank which implies that the benchmarked practices have now been certified.
EarthCheck, the world’s leading scientific benchmarking certification and advisory group for travel and tourism, helps businesses and communities promote business sustainability and practices that do not only protect the environment but create a community lifestyle beneficial for everyone in the long run.
In 2017, Marco Polo Davao has eliminated the use of single-use plastic straw and stirrer in the hotel and partnered with local social enterprise to provide sustainable alternatives. The hotel has also been known for its commitment and support to the Philippine Eagle Foundation in its efforts to protect and save the endangered national bird, likewise to educate the community about the balance in the ecosystem.
Other Marco Polo hotels in China and Hong Kong have supported green initiatives and have been certified by EarthCheck such as Marco Polo Wuhan which likewise received its Silver certification.
