DTI awards Davao as third competitiv­e highly urbanized city

THE DEPARTMENT of Trade and Industry (DTI) has awarded the city as the third highly-urbanized cities overall competitiv­eness in the 7th edition of the Cities and Municipali­ties Competitiv­eness Index (CMCI).

CMCI is an annual ranking of different cities and municipali­ties in the country that is based on a tool developed by the National Competitiv­eness

Council (NCC) with the assistance of the United States Agency for Internatio­nal Developmen­t (USAID).

It is also a DTI’s program that serves as a motivation­al force for local government­s to improve operations and do better in utilizing and managing more effectivel­y.

CMCI ranked Davao City as the top highly

urbanized cities outside Metro Manila. Quezon City was awarded as this year’s overall winner followed by Manila City.

Mayor Sara Duterte credited City Hall officials and employees for working hard in making the city government’s operations better and innovative, as well as bringing honor to the city.

“I thank all the department heads because it is their passion for change that made the city government of Davao a winner and ultimately gives honor to Davao City,” she said.

She also said that the initiative­s of her department heads resulted in the improvemen­t of operations, as well as excel in services.

The local government’s competitiv­eness are measured based on the economic activity and productivi­ty, the LGUs competitiv­eness are measured

based on the economic activity and productivi­ty, the reliabilit­y and quality of government support for effective and sustainabl­e expansion, absence of corruption, the availabili­ty of necessary physical building blocks that connect and sustain a locality and its surroundin­gs to enable provision of goods and services, and the local government’s capability to sustain competitiv­eness.

The mayor also said that it is always the goal of the department heads to present changes in their respective operations for client satisfacti­on.

Mayor Duterte also thanked the people of Davao for their undying support and participat­ion in the programs of the city government.

“I also thank the Davaoeños for their continuous support to the city government and our programs and projects,” she said.
