THE OFFICE of Civil Defense (OCD) and the Regional Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Center (RDRRMC) XI are asking all prospective donors to have direct coordination with the regional and/or the local disaster risk reduction and management councils.

“We would like to request and remind all groups, organizations or individuals who wish to provide in kind or cash assistance to always have direct coordination with

Regional and Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils to ensure that all affected communities or families will be able to receive the necessary assistance,” OCD XI Director Manuel Luis Ochotorena said in a statement.

The recent series of earthquake incidents that originated in Cotabato area have affected some parts of Davao Region, particularly Davao City, Davao Occidental and Davao del Sur.

The government, through its response mechanism, has been providing the needed assistance and support to the affected communities since the first major quake hit the island.

Ochotorena said the OCD-RDRRMC XI Emergency Operations Center, located at Door 210 2/F, LDL Building (fronting Davao International Airport) along CP Garcia Highway in Barangay Communal, Buhangin District, is the coordination hub for the ongoing response operations in the region.

As of Nov. 2, a total of P12,305,185 worth of assistance (food, shelter, financial, health) were already provided to the affected families and individuals by the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council XI in Davao Region alone, he said.

“To continuously provide all the needed relief and rehabilitation efforts, all concerned RDRRMC XI member agencies are still conducting field assessments and validation of the damages especially to those families who lost their houses,” Ochotorena said.

In addition, the RDRRMC XI Response Cluster was already activated to efficiently and effectively provide and manage the disaster response operations in the region.

“For the spirit of ‘Bayanihan’ as what we Filipinos are known for, there are groups or individuals who donate different kinds of assistance (mostly food, water, kitchen utensils, clothes) to the earthquake-stricken areas of Davao Region and many more groups, organizations or individuals are signifying their intent to provide help in the community,” he said.

Ochotorena said significant to this operation is a 24/7 response mechanism in the region in close coordination with the local disaster risk reduction and management councils.

In Davao del Sur, the badly affected province in the region, donor can contact the Provincial and Municipal DRRM offices or Incident Command Posts located in their respective Provincial Capitol and/or Municipal Hall.
