‘Terrorists’ surrender

ZAMBOANGA CITY -Two members of the Dawlah Islamiyah and two supporters have surrendere­d to military authoritie­s in the province of Lanao del Sur, an official said Wednesday.

Lt. Col. Edgar Allan Villanueva, Army’s 49th Infantry Battalion commander, identified the Dawlah Islamiyah surrendere­rs as Camar Gampong Musa and Nasroding Comayog Patilan while the supporters as Badroding Gampong Patilan and Pacalinog Patila.

nition when they surrendere­d around 3:30 p.m. Monday in Barangay Cromatan, Masiu, Lanao del Sur.

He said the four were placed under custodial debriefing. Col. Jose Maria Cuerpo II, the Army’s 103rd Infantry Brigade commander, has called on the other members of the Dawlah Islamiyah, formerly known as the Maute group, to surrender to live a peaceful life.

“We continuous­ly encourage local terrorist groups and their supporters to surrender and submit themselves to the folds of the law in order to make their community peaceful,” Cuerpo said.

Meanwhile, Brig. Gen. Bagnus Gaerlan Jr., 1st Infantry Division acting commander, commended the efforts of the troops for the surrender of local terrorist members and their supporters.

Gaerlan also thank the local government and other stakeholde­rs for their continued trust and support the troops “in contributi­ng peace and developmen­t in the whole province of Lanao del Sur.”
