DSWD releases P1.1M to quake-hit families

THE DEPARTMENT of Social Welfare and Developmen­t (DSWD) XI has provided a total of ₱1,178,643 worth of assistance comprising of 1,145 family food packs, 1,200 laminated sacks, and eight family tents to the affected families of the magnitude 6.9 earthquake in Matanao, Padada, and Digos City, all in Davao del Sur, as of 12 noon yesterday.

The DSWD has also establishe­d its satellite operation center at the Provincial Capitol Compound to monitor the status of the internally displaced persons (IDPs) and has deployed members of its quick response team to conduct relief operations in the severely affected areas.

The Disaster Response and Management Division is also expecting the opening of additional evacuation centers in the already hard-hit areas of the previous series of earthquake­s and the deployment of additional camp managers from the field staff on the holidays.

Assessment and validation of the affected families and individual­s is still on going and the department has coordinate­d with the local government units for the provision and delivery of the families’ immediate needs.

A total of 10,775 family food packs (FFPs) amounting to ₱4,270,886, food items for production amounting to ₱4,045,000, and non-food items worth ₱6,702,788 are ready for distributi­on to the affected areas. The field office has a standby funds of ₱6,000,644 to date.
