No muzzling of guns this holidays; police warned

THE DAVAO Police Regional Office ordered city and provincial directors to control their personnel as Camp Crame nixed the traditional muzzling of firearms for Christmas and New Year revelries.

Maj. Jason Baria, the regional police spokesperson, reminded the

men and women in the force that indiscriminate firing will result in heavy penalties.

On Monday, the Philippine National Police (PNP) warned chiefs of police that they would be relieved from their posts if they fail to solve cases of deaths and injuries caused by indiscriminate firing during the Christmas and New Year festivities.

Lt. Gen. Camilo Pancratius Cascolan, PNP deputy chief for operations, said they have imposed a one-strike rule for chiefs of police, as well as precinct and station commanders. The policy will strictly apply to all chiefs of police who will fail to take action to solve the cases within 24 hours.

He said the PNP targets zero casualty from indiscriminate firing and stray bullet incidents.

“The officer-in-charge (PNP Director General Archie Gamboa) emphasized the one-strike policy and to ensure that there will be zero incidents that will happen during the yuletide season,” Baria said.
