Trader, midwife hurt in Maguindanao ambush

-

CITY -- A businessman and a midwife were wounded in an ambush perpetrated by motorcycleriding gunmen in Parang, Maguindanao on Thursday night, police said.

In a report released on Saturday, Lt. Col. Ibrahim Jambiran, Parang police chief, identified the victims as trader Ibrahim Macacua, 28; and Lanie Tarusan, 42, a midwife.

The victims were on board their vehicle heading to the town proper when overtaken and fired upon by gunmen on a motorbike along the road in Barangay Nituan of the municipality shortly before 7 p.m.

“Tarusan, who was driving the car, sustained a gunshot wound in the body while Macacua was hit in the leg,” Jambiran said.

Concerned villagers brought the victims to a local hospital following the incident, police said.

Police recovered spent shells from .45-caliber pistols at the ambush site.

Jambiran said they are eyeing personal grudge as the motive behind the attack but are not discounting other angles, such as business-related maters. (PNA)
