‘Ursula’ enters PAR


MANILA -- Tropical storm Ursula (Phanfone) has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibi­lity on Monday morning.

In its 8 a.m. forecast, the Philippine Atmospheri­c, Geophysica­l and Astronomic­al Services Administra­tion (PAGASA) said from Tuesday to Wednesday, moderate to heavy rains is expected over Dinagat Islands, Siargao and Bucas Grande Islands, Eastern Visayas, Sorsogon, Masbate, Romblon, Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Iloilo, Guimaras, and the northern portions of Cebu and Negros Occidental.

Light to moderate with intermitte­nt heavy rains is expected over Quezon and the rest of Visayas, Bicol Region and Surigao del Norte.

Ursula is forecast to gradually intensify to at most severe tropical storm category prior to landfall over Eastern Visayas tomorrow afternoon or evening.

At 7 a.m., the center of Ursula was estimated based on all available data at 900 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur. It is moving west northwest at 25 kms. per hour with maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph.
