Sec. Avisado: At the helm of the budget department

- DANILO DAYANGHIRANG

Atty Wendel Eliot Avisado, a soft spoken gentleman from Surigao City and former city administrator of Davao City, was appointed Secretary of the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) replacing Ms. Janet Abuel. He is a trusted friend of the President and known as a man who hates corruption. Hence, DBM is surely in good hands.

DBM is primarily tasked to formulate and implement policies to better manage our national budget. It also oversees the sound utilization of government funds and revenues to the end of achieving our country’s development goals. It sees to it that the wealth of the government is efficiently distributed among the hundreds of departments, agencies, and public offices nationwide. It also works together with the Department of Finance (DoF) to generate revenues for public use.

Secretary Avisado’s excellent track record in public service coupled with his desire to free the government from corruption certainly justifies why he was chosen to lead the Budget Department.

Fondly called WEA by his friends, Secretary Avisado is also a former Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Regional Director of the Davao Region. He epitomizes a hard-nosed public servant whose primary concern is the general welfare

Leaders like Secretary WEA gives the Filipino people more reason to believe that our government deserves to be given the respect and the trust it lost after generations of corruption committed by people who were wrongfully appointed to vital posts.

Mabuhay ka Secretary Avisado!

The appointment of Secretary Avisado as head of DBM is a measure intended to lessen, if not totally eradicate, the improper use of public funds. We are now reaping the benefits of having a “working” government. Just recently, the Davao City Council approved the release of financial assistance to the provinces and municipalities affected by typhoon Ursula in Visayas, earthquakes in Mindanao, and Taal volcano eruption in Batangas and Cavite in the amount of P11,300,000. The future of our country really depends on the quality of government leaders that we elect or appoint to office. The next senatorial election is fast approaching. Several people with brilliant and incorruptible personalities have already signified their intentions to run. They are Dax Cua of Quirino Province in Region II, Justice Velasco who is the incumbent governor of Marinduque in Region 4b, Karlo Nograles of Mindanao, Martin Andanar of Mindanao, and Governor Jon Vic Remulla of Cavite. Just like Secretary Avisado, they are gentlemen with integrity who put into practice genuine public service. Let us support these people for a better Philippines!
