- BY RHODA GRACE B. SARON

governors in the region initiated measures to help contain the 2019 novel coronavirus and ban the entry of live hogs and pork products to prevent the spread of the African Swine Fever (ASF) in their areas.

Davao del Norte Governor Edwin Jubahib said that these are just precautionary measures since the Department of Health already gave the assurance that the situation is under control. However, with the ASF, they already established quarantine checkpoints in all entry points in the province.

“Based on the inspection team that we have placed in the entry points, if they can see that the delivery vans are not certified they can’t enter inside, “Jubahib said.

Davao del Norte already banned pork products and live hogs from Davao del Sur and Davao Occidental.

Meanwhile, Davao Oriental Governor Nelson Dayanghirang said they are closing down their borders to make sure that contami

nated hogs could not enter the province.

Brig. Gen. Filmore Escobal, the Police Regional Office XI, also said that they have assisted the lockdown and provided necessary assistance to the local government of Davao Occidental.

“We have established checkpoints also. There are municipalities identified so that they can’t go to the neighboring provinces,” Escobal said. “Each municipalities implemented check points to ensure safety and security.”
