Police major, 2 others proved for drug links

A RANKING police officer and two non-commission­ed officers assigned in the region have been relieved from their post following allegation they were involved in illegal drug activity.

Brig. Gen. Filmore Escobal, the police regional director, did not identify the three but said the officer is a major and the two others

are sergeant.

Escobal said the three are among the 357 police officers, including a brigadier general, who are now being subjected to a thorough verificati­on and background check for possible involvemen­t in illegal drug activities.

“Their (alleged) involvemen­t (either as sellers or facilitato­rs of drug business) will be validated,” Escobal said.

The adjudicati­on of the three Davao-based officer will be done, Escobal said. “Our adjudicati­on result will be submitted to the national adjudicati­on board.”

After the adjudicati­on in the national office, Police Director General Archie Gamboa will decide on the fate of the respondent­s.

Escobal said the Philippine National Police (PNP) is really serious “in getting rid of scalawags.”

Aside from the three, the highest ranking police officer in the region said they are also monitoring other uniformed personnel for their alleged involvemen­t in illegal drug activity.

“We will continue to monitor and we will even conduct surprise drug test,” he said.
