Culture-based tourist attraction­s eyed in Mati

THE CITY Government of Mati is eyeing to develop tourists attraction­s in all 26 barangays that has something to do with culture and arts of the indigenous peoples.

Marilyn Yumon, Indigenous Peoples Concerns technical staff, said that aside from the beautiful beaches and bays, Mati has also a lot to offer when it comes to culture and arts especially on the Mandayan culture.

This is why, she said, that they decided to meet with various tribal leaders in the city for them to identify possible tourist attraction­s in their respective areas that the City Government could help them develop.

The orientatio­n of Tourism and Cultural Profiles in the City of Mati was held at the City Hall Conference Room yesterday.

The orientatio­n is in line with the Mati Council for Culture and the Arts (MCCA) plans that will promote culture and arts of the City of Mati. Attending the meeting with her were City Tourism Officer Dashiel Indelible, Local Cultural and Arts Officer Mila Valles, City Indigenous People Mandatory Representa­tive Felicito Masagnay, and Mandaya Tribal chieftains of the invited barangays.

After the identifica­tion of the tourist destinatio­ns, the Council will now conduct validation in the barangays before proceeding with the public consultati­on. The validation will run from March to April of this year. The pilot area would be Barangay Macambol and followed by Lanca, Luban, and Cabuaya. PR
