CHO: Most residents now have septic tanks
THE CITY Health Office (CHO) bared that most households in the city have already installed septic tanks following the inspection in some barangays last Friday.
“Although it’s not 100 percent, but most of them (have septic tanks) already,” said CHO head Josephine Villafuerte.
In an interview on
Monday, Villafuerte said the results of their inspection last Friday showed that most of the households, especially those near Davao River, have already complied with the directive to put septic tanks for their comfort rooms.
Villafuerte said they are working in coordination with the barangay officials to encourage the residents to build septic tanks for the toilet/s.
“Some are building septic tanks (already), while others haven’t started yet. So they go to communal toilets. Other areas have communal toilets, while others don’t,” she added.
On Friday, city health workers visited far-flung barangays, particularly near the Davao River, to encourage houses to build septic tanks in a drive against polio.
CHO encouraged residents to have septic tanks to avoid diseases including diarrhea and gastroenteritis.
A result of the test conducted by the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) last December on the waters of Davao River detected polio virus.
Previously, residents defecate directly to the river. This was pointed as the possible source of the poliovirus.
