US-based firm doubles down on recruiting fresh Filipino talents

-

TECHNOLOGY-ENABLED Silicon Valley-based property management company Poplar Homes is on the lookout for fresh local talents as it grows its Philippine team after landing $53 million in Series B funding.

Poplar is in a period of hypergrowth and continues to transform the rapidly-developing single-family rental (SFR) landscape in the US. With the funding, the company aims to double its Philippine team in line with broadening its scope of services.

“We’ve already hired over 100 new employees this first quarter and aim to fill in about 300 more positions in customer service, sales, engineering, and marketing by end of the year,” said Andy Cayatas, Poplar Homes’ human resource manager.

“We see this massive hiring as a significant contribution to employment opportunities and the local economy in Davao as we’re based here,” he added.

Poplar’s PH team serves as its supporting arm, growing from a handful of 25 employees in 2016 to its current team of 244. Consisting of highly-skilled problemsolvers, they helped launch Poplar’s ground-breaking products, achieve a national brand footprint in the US, and facilitate over $200 million in rent volume.

“Our PH team is our pillar of strength. We admire their Filipino work ethics and dedication in turning creative ideas into life-changing products for our customers,” said Greg Toschi, Poplar’s CEO and co-founder. “As a tech company with an agile working environment, this is the kind of dedicated team that will take Poplar where it needs to be,” he added.

In 2015 when Rico Mok, Poplar’s chief technology officer and co-founder, visited their remote teams in different areas, the team from Davao stood out with their intelligence, motivation, and passion. This led

Poplar to set up their home base in Davao City in 2016 under Unorenta Business Solutions Inc.

“We consider Davao a branch office which I think is noteworthy,” said Chuck Hattemer, Poplar co-founder and CMO. “Our team in Davao is building innovative solutions and services, testing ideas with customers daily. It is the beating heart of our operations,” he added.

With plans of rapid expansion to develop more innovative products and serve more market areas, Poplar Homes expects to continue augmenting its workforce in Davao and other regional areas.
