THE DAVAO City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) is planning to establish evacuation centers in Marilog District.

In an interview, Sarah Festin, CSWDO assistant department head, said each shelter will feature different conveniences to address the needs of the families.

"Gi-encourage na nga katong himoanan nila'g evacuation center, kailangan naa pud siya sa safe ground. And ang mga facilities nila, kinahanglan naa na pud didto," Festin said.

Facilities include charging stations, a breastfeeding area, handwashing, and marital space for married couples.

According to their report, the seven houses in Marilog District that were totally damaged will receive P20,000 financial assistance, while the six houses that were partially damaged will receive a financial assistance of P15,000.

In the same vein, Maria Cristina Villegas, City

Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office acting head, urged residents in Marilog District to immediately conduct preemptive evacuation, especially during bad weather conditions.

"Kamo man ang mas nakahibalo sa inyong sitwasyon, kung tan-aw ninyo nga nagsunod na ang ulan and then kabalo mo na ang inyohang gipuy-an, delikado, hangyo namo nga dili namo magpaabot na anaa pa'y muduol na mga barangay officials nga mu-advice sa inyoha na mu-evacuate," she added.

The CSWDO also recently distributed a total of 24,000 food packs to flood and landslide-hit families in Davao City, brought about by the trough of a low-pressure area in Davao Region in the first week of February.

Last week, the 20th Davao City Council approved the P84 million quick response fund utilized for the welfare goods of those 23 barangays affected by the said calamity.
