EDGY VEGGY

Starting a new, healthier lifestyle is hard—but it doesn’t have to be; Edgy

Veggy provides all the vegetarian and vegan foods you need! This brand new restaurant, located in Pasig, focuses on the very essence of life: balance among mind, body, and spirit. With a hectic lifestyle that most of us lead, the nutritious food on the menu will in turn give your body the break that it needs. The nutrient-packed dishes use healthy and whole ingredients such as unbleached flour, brown sugar, and coconut milk.

Edgy Veggy is also a go-to spot to pick up various teas, mango chutneys, and a handful of dried goods (Italian three-kinds of mushroom risotto and Indian mushroom biryani with cooking instructions on the package).

The best-sellers that you’ll be craving after one visit include: Falafel Gyro (P220), crispy chickpea falafels accompanied by authentic hummus and aromatic rice, a light lettuce and tomato salad, and yogurt garlic sauce; and the tangy pesto-lovers delight Mushroom and Pesto Panizza (Mediterranean option, P275), which has feta, mozzarella (or vegan option—cashew cream), spinach (or kale), artichokes, olives, arugula, alfalfa, and capers baked on top of a healthy whole-wheat crust base. For a quick lunch, try the Big Burger Burrito (P250). This mouthwatering dish has mushroom burger bits, lettuce, refried beans, and Mexican rice all wrapped together in a soft burrito, accompanied by nacho chips, sour cream, fresh guacamole, and salsa.

The options are endless at Edgy Veggy! Once you step foot into this lovable restaurant, it’ll become a family favorite. — HANNAH CLARKE

GANDIVA

Gandiva Café and Archery Range borrows its name from Arjuna's mythical bow which rendered him invincible and victorious in the Kurukshetra war. While this Ortigas café and indoor archery range can't guarantee your victory in war, it can give you an edge in the battle for fitness.

For starters, try the Mushroom Crispies (P125) — chewy enoki mushrooms covered in batter then fried and served with Gandiva's homemade barbecue sauce.

Eat your fill of vegetables with the Veggie Supreme Pizza (12" for P275, 18" for P420). A delightfully thin crust is generously topped with tomatoes, mushroom, onion, olives, bell pepper, and veggie meat. Don't forget to try it with Gandiva's hot sauce, also made from scratch.

For pasta lovers, the Garlic Pasta with Beef Salpicao (P198) is sure to be a hit. Spaghetti is bathed in garlic oil and topped with soy cubes marinated in salpicao-inspired vegetarian sauce.

If you prefer burgers, Veggie Sloppy Joe (P175) with its ground veggie meat, chili, and refried beans served with nacho chips and salsa is guaranteed to satisfy your craving.

The refreshing Lemongrass tea (P70) is uncharacteristically dark as Gandiva uses coco sugar instead of refined white sugar to sweeten the drinks as well as the pastries.

For dessert, make sure to check back every once in a while because Gandiva's dessert menu changes almost on a daily basis. Northern Living was fortunate enough to try the Tofu Fudge (P40) which is an eggless but chewy and moist chocolate brownie.

Gandiva has a lacto-vegetarian menu and does not use refined sugar in any of the menu items. It is the perfect place to recharge with healthy food after an archery session at their range next door. — MARAH RUIZ
