A row of houses as can­vas for art are be­com­ing com­mon in many ur­ban ar­eas around the world, but a mu­ral that en­com­passes a whole stretch of houses, enough to be called an art vil­lage, is a rel­a­tively un­heard of con­cept. Called

fave­las, th­ese in­ter­sec­tions of ur­ban space and art have al­ready taken root in Rio de Janeiro and South Korea, with Baguio soon to fol­low suit. In­spired by Brazil, Benguet is giv­ing its shanties an aes­thetic facelift to bring color to the lives of the lo­cals and at­tract tourists as well.
