Writing passion and love

- Harthwell C. Capistrano

It was exactly 10 years ago when I last saw my name on print.

I was with the News Express at that time as a columnist and reporter while working in the hospital and doing part-time job in West Visayas State University College of Nursing as its faculty member of instruction. I also did correspondent work with the BusinessWorld and the defunct regional newspaper, The News Today, at the same time. Multi-tasking was never new to me.

After working in Iloilo and having spent fulfilling years in writing for tabloids and broadsheets, I embarked on my profession in the world of oil and gas.

After taking up nursing and passing all the exams locally and abroad, I took petroleum engineering and thankfully passed the degree through Expanded Tertiary Education Equivalency and Accreditation (ETEEAP). Me and Captain Franklin Malana were the first ones in the Philippines to receive the degree through this program at the Palawan State University in 2013.

I always go back to school, take a lot of training, and spend more time in investing to improve my professional packaging while having a full-time job. I might be hooked and engrossed with being busy – seeing things in order, and achieving amazing results. Accomplishments for me are just part of day-to-day activities. Nothing to fuss about; but, each time I see great things done, I yearn for more.

It’s not all about money, attention nor fame. And spending more time on inessential and less important things would ruin this life I have. Everything would be at stake – families and loved ones would left in vain. I cannot exactly turn back precious moments. I should have to use the time I have in the right perspective.

Being busy is what makes up my experience ever since. I do multiple jobs; working on projects, including non-government organization assignments. It wasn’t only fun and enjoyable, but of course fulfilling that I can make something different out of ordinary.

For others, it seemed impossible to produce quality results while doing other things at the same time. But I think nothing is impossible if you have the will and the drive to do it.

And never did I think that I would use pen and paper to express what I feel and to be connected with people around me.

Why Palawan Daily News? It’s all about passion and love in writing.
