From musician to vlogger: The Awesomepats

Palawan Daily News - - Feature - By Harthwell Capistrano

For half a decade, he spent his life in the world of music playing with his band, Freeplay. Almost five times a week, he does gigs, concerts, and shows in Puerto Princesa City and outside Palawan, as well.

For two years, he has been contemplating on doing video blogging. And in the last couple of months, he made a great buzz when netizens start to be engrossed with his videos showcasing local food, restaurants, and even “What’s the darkest streets?” in Puerto Princesa City. Most of his viewers are now his fans and they keep on engaging with his contents.

Patrick Aquino giggles like a toddler and is as funny one could get. He sets a creative tone in the blogosphere using his videos. He just loves to create videos even without getting remuneration from the featured establishments and businesses. “Passion” is just what it takes to drive him in his creativity.

“Gusto ko ma-share kung ano na-experience ko sa mga tao (I just would like to share what I experience),” said Mr. Aquino.

There is no definite plan when he produces his video blogs. “Just go on with the flow na lang. Basta gusto ko lang ‘to gawin kasi passion ko sya (I’ll just go with the flow. I just love to do it because it’s my passion).”

Aside from vlogging Mr. Aquino is into web-based SMS blast marketing. He used to spend almost every night with his band, but now his routine has changed since he does video shoots and editing.

Who is Patrick Aquino? “Masayahing tao, very masayahin. Medyo may pagkapilyo na kahit may problema ka na gusto mong umiyak pero kelangan mong ngumiti. Siguro magaling na lang ako mag ‘poker face’… Once you get to know me personally, tingin ko naman maggugustuhan n’yo rin naman talaga ako… (A jolly person, very jolly. There are times that I feel like crying, but I have to smile. Maybe good at showing my ‘poker face’ looks... Once you get to know me personally, I think you would get along with me).”

Mr. Aquino has two kids and one of them has been shown in some of his videos.

He went to Fullbright College and took up Bachelor of Science in Electronics Communications Engineering, and then transferred to AMA College but he hopped again to Palawan State University where he finished Computer Science.

“The greatest challenge in vlogging is finding the right music,” Mr. Aqunio said. And to add here is “ang pagiging makapal ang mukha while shooting videos (to get away from being shy while shooting videos).”

“It feels really good – pero nakikita mo yung mga taong nag-eenjoy sa video mo – its priceless! (It feels really good – but if you see people enjoying my video – it’s priceless)!”

Mr. Aquino shares that what matters the most is not the views but the shares.

“What is important to me is shares not views. Maraming tao nakaka-relate at nakaka-gusto. (There are a lot of people who can relate and like my videos)”

Three weeks ago, he decided to leave his band.

“It’s hard to leave the band,” Mr. Aquino said. But it is for him to commit to visit places, where he cannot do while he’s with his band.

Outside vlogging, he loves to travel around and spend more time with his family.

“On my part, nandito ako na gumagawa ng mga contents na sana magustuhan ninyo (On my part, I am just here to create contents that hopefully people would love).”

“I am very, very happy na makapag-upload ako. Nakakatuwa lang dahil nandyan kayo to support me. And I did not expect people to share (I am very, very happy that I could be able to upload videos. It feels great that people are there to support me. And I did not expect people to share).”

“Sana dumating ang time na sobrang lumaki ng lumaki ang community natin. Kasi iyon ang time na masasabi ko na kahit papaano, talagang magbubunga din ang pinaghirapan natin na kahit konting aral me mapupulot. (Hopefully soon our community will grow more and bigger. And that would be time that I can say everything – all of my labors and hardships – come into fruition where people can get some learnings, as well).”

“Sobrang thank you to everyone. Simula noong nag start tayo hanggang ngayon, nandyan sila. Sobrang heart touching – heart warming. Thank you so much! (Thank you very much to everyone. From there very start up to this time, you are there to support me. It’s heart touching – heart warming. Thank you very much!)”

For Mr. Aquino, while the film is rolling, music never stops. He just added more spice to what he believes in is his passion – video blogging.
