Catriona Gray holds one-on-one with Palawan LGBTQI community
Binibining Pilinas Universe 2018 Catriona Gray held a one-on-one session with the LGBTQ community in Amos Tara Community Health Center, September 18, 2018.
She answered the community and gave pieces of advice to the participants as well as gave inspirational message to the Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, Transexuals, Queer and Intersex community.
The activity was conducted to empower the community, which according to Catriona, should be treated as “our community” not just a community of its own and should not be treated as just a “movement.”
“I think we need to be more wellpresented to tell more positive stories (About the LGBTQ)... Accepting them and not just tolerating them, accepting them as a community, as one of the voices that make up the Philippines and not just someone who goes
on rallies,” she said.
She added there is a need to integrate the LGBTQI community in the society for them to be really empowered and normalize them in the society. “You know, all the rainbows, and unicorns, and whatever, the truth is we need to integrate them in the society,” she said.
She also stated that having transgenders in pageants will also be a great platform to spread to the world the struggles and needs of the transgender community.
She also set Ms. Universe Spain as an example, stating that her platform is a great tool in voicing out and empowering their community’s needs and struggles
“I personally have no problem with that. I think that would be nice to have someone with that kind of platform to voice out what the transgender community needs,” said Catriona.
Rica Ponce De LeonBelleza of Balangaw Organization said that the activity is more than just a talk but also a support to vanish the inequality and stigma of the society towards LGBTQ Community.
“I think this will help empower us, kasi it gives us support against equality and people has a knowledgeable response,” she said.
