Filipinos: Then and Now

- By Harley Servando

“We honor and praise Him, and bring back the glory to Him.“...

Filipinos are known to be resilient and hospitable. We are like BDO, finding possible ways to solve problems.

We choose to be tough and still smile despite how heavy the burden we do carry each day.

The smile on our faces make us who we are today.

We are united whilst being caved in by this seemingly chaotic era.

We are still able and continue to give hues to life and color the different aspects of it. We are driven by our dreams and passion—the persevering, determined and ignited heart, body and soul. We keep on going albeit we are fighting against our own demons.

We are genuine and are capable of accepting and respecting each one’s perspective and run through valleys of norms and values making us identified and as learned human beings.

We continue to give whatever we can possibly give in spite of also being in need. We show perpetual love and embrace each one with our true personality making us being loved back also.

We celebrate the victories and success of others especially those ones closest to our hearts. We let each of one of us know and unleash our inner beauty and skills bringing us all into a brighter picture of journey.

We never forget to remember our loved ones who have passed away. Offering them prayers, candles, flowers and even foods just to show how we dearly love them.

We are religious. For most number, of which are Roman Catholics, we pray the Holy Rosary and the Novena, and attend Holy Eucharistic celebrations with our loved ones.

We honor and praise Him, and bring back the glory to Him. We celebrate special occasions, may it be grand or simple, and ready the table for the whole family, relatives and friends flaunting of how family-oriented Filipino families are.

We are Filipinos. Born in the land of The Pearl of the Orient Sea—true-spiritedly Filipinos of then and now.
