Miss Palawan (The Prestige) 2018 Introduced its 16 lovely candidates representing different municipalities, schools or barangays in a press conference on December 6, 2018 at Sienatel Hotel with this year’s focus “We Empower Women.”

Mr. Bong Villanueva, Founder of Miss Palawan Charities, Incorporated, says that the pageant is looking into the local community of Palawan and use the Miss Palawan 2018 pageant as the platform to address issues that are often neglected.

This year they focus on single motherhood. “Miss Palawan provides an opportunity to single mothers enabling and empowering to have a better quality of life we both know it’s not easy to be a single parent, mahirap talaga maging single mom,” he explained.

“Itong Miss Palawan charities ngayon we are focusing empowering women,” Mr. Villanueva added. Furthermore, co-producer Ms. Maruj Encoy added how hard it is to be a single mother raising her kids without the support of their father and how she turns out to be a strong woman and wants to push the benefits of a single mother.

“Expect our participation empowering women, nung pinasok ko ito I ask bong kung para saan ito at makaktulong ba? Nung sinabi niya sa akin this is for all the ‘single mothers’ hindi na ako nag dalawang isip because I’ve been a single mother for 5 years tinaguyod ko ung mga anak ko ng walang suporta sa tatay mag isa ako binuhay ang aking mga anak I become a strong woman.” She said.

“Gusto kong i-push yung benefits ng mga single mother, gusto kong i-educate ang mga single mother (Solo Parent), this is I want to share as part of my advocacy” she added.

Ms. Encoy emphasized that after the pageant the charity will go to the municipalities and coordinate with Department of Social Welfare Development (DSWD) for every single mother in the area to explain what their rights as a solo parent are.

“Mag-iikot kame sa bawat municipality para makipag-ugnayan sa DSWD ipapatawag naming ung mga single mothers para malaman nila ang kanilang mga karapatan,” Ms. Encoy said.

The Grand Coronation night will be held at Puerto Princesa City Coliseum on December 9, 2018.
