Women's group launched in 3rd congressional district
3rd Palawan District House Rep. Gil P. Acosta’s office recently launched an organization dubbed Women for Change (WFC) which recognizes the important roles women play in the society and family and empowers them by providing sustainable sources of livelihood. Acosta said the WFC envisions women to have equal opportunities in economic development by providing them those also enjoyed by the men. Fely Acosta, the wife of Rep. Acosta, is the head of the organization composed of 750 women. “Inilunsad natin ang WFC upang pagibayuhin ang kaalaman at karapatan ng mga kababaihan sa loob at labas ng tahanan,” she said. During the kickoff ceremony at the Provincial Capitol, the women from the 3rd Palawan Congressional District came in purple shirts and paraded along Rizal Avenue. This was followed by a seminar on Republic Act 9262 (Anti-violence Against Women and their Children) and information dissemination about HIV-AIDS. A seminar on Federalism with Adelino B. Sitoy of the Presidential Legislative Liaison Office as the main speaker was also done. A jobs fair was also conducted, allowing the on- the- spot hiring by companies of qualified applicants. A free eye consultation and distribution of reading eyeglasses to around 300 women participants aged 40 years old and above was also made part of the launching. “Rest assured that the WFC will continue in providing meaningful programs and projects to ensure that women’s voices are heard,” Mrs. Acosta said.
