The Bureau of Fire Protection ( BFP) has fined two prominent establishments in Puerto Princesa City for having failed to install automatic fire suppression or sprinklers systems in their respective establishments in violation of the Fire Code of the Philippines. SFO2 Mark Rotsene Rabajante of BFP identified the establishments as Sheridan Beach Resort, a luxury hotel in Barangay Cabayugan near the Underground River, and Tiki Bar Restaurant, a popular night spot along Rizal Avenue. Sheridan Beach Resort was fined P150,000 while Tiki Bar was ordered to pay P50,000 for the infraction. “Pinapatupad natin ang batas kasi kailangan talaga ng automatic fire suppression kung maraming andana ang building o malawak ang area nya, at sa type ng occupancy nito,” Rabajante told Palawan News on Tuesday. He said that because of such violation, Tiki Bar, an entertainment establishment located in Rizal Avenue was fined in the amount of P50 thousand, while a resort hotel in Brgy. Sabang, Sheridan was fined P150 thousand. Raba jante explained that Tiki Bar, being an establishment that holds live band shows and entertainment, is considered as a place of assembly because it gathers people during an activity, thus, requiring the installation of an automatic fire suppression. The Sheridan Beach Resort, he added, is a multi- layered building and each building covers a big area. He said the two establishments had been given a prior notice of violation but failed to comply. “Pero upon verification, hindi nag- comply ang establishment kaya nag issue tayo ng Notice to Fine,” he said. He said the BFP gave the establishments 15 days to settle their penalty.
