Road hit victim's relative denies driver's account

- By Gillian Faye Ibañez Reporter

A relative of Monday’s road hit victim at the national highway in Barangay San Pedro on Thursday denied the statement issued to the police by the driver of the vehicle involved in the accident. Citing a CCTV footage captured by a commercial establishment, a relative of the victim claimed that the driver’s account of the accident did not match with the CCTV footage. The video showed the pickup truck overtaking another vehicle at a high speed and directly hitting the victim, Nestor Aguilar Flores, who was crossing the road. “Sabi niya ay hindi niya sinasadya. Sabi niya eh huminto daw siya, nabulaga daw siya. May edad na daw siya. Sabi niya nakahinto raw yong sasakyan tapos biglang tumawid, tapos andami niyang alibi. Dapat ay hindi nalang siya nagsinungaling. Nung nakita ko kanina ang CCTV footage, sabi ko ganoon pala ang nangyari, mali,” Elera Losba es, an aunt of the victim, told Palawan News. The vehicle involved in the accident was a Comelec-accredited car driven by Louis Serenas, who is an employee at City Hall. Serenas earlier told an investigator he did not see the victim crossing along his path when he swerved his vehicle towards the opposite lane to avoid another on his right. Police Chief inspector Mark Allen Palacio told Palawan News Tuesday the investigation is still ongoing and that they are aware of the CCTV footage. He added however that they have sufficient information to file a case of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide against Serenas. “The CCTV is immaterial na, nandoon na rin naman, eh. Walang kulay yon kahit magkaroon ng CCTV o wala. Nandoon na rin naman yong nakabangga. Impounded yong sasakyan. Yong case on process. reckless imprudence resulting to homicide yon,” Palacio said. He noted that even without the CCTV footage, the statement given by Serenas was belied by the other evidence they gathered from the scene. “Mayroong mga scratches sa kalsada na naiiwan, posisyon ng banggaan. Pinalaki ang police para mag-imbestiga, hindi para makinig ng kuwento,” he said.
