Team Pilipinas Pool

-

Palawan, expect the country to troop to the cemeteries as we pay our respects to our dearly departed this weekend. Practically all sporting activities would be on holiday the UAAP, NCAA and even the PBA games are scheduled to take a break in the first few days of November. Safe travels, and enjoy the holiday weekend.

Everybody is excited by the current Philippine National basketball team pool. Imagine a line up that includes a stratospheric frontcourt of Greg Slaughter ( 7’ 0), June Mar Fajardo ( 6’ 10), Japeth Aguilar ( 6’ 9) and naturalized player Andre Blatche ( 6’ 11)… that ladies and gents in NBA and International grade frontline. With the height already resolved, all we need to do is surround the towers with shooters and steady guards, which the country have in abundance. Wings/ Shooters: Allein Maliksi, Matthew Wright, Marcio Lassiter, Terrence Romeo, Troy Rosario Point Guards: Alex Cabagnot, Jayson Castro, Paul Lee, Scottie Thompson Wing defenders: Gabe Norwood, Beau Belga, Raymond Almazan Just a quick look at the names and you will see that this team, if and when we are able to put them all together, has the tools to make it big in the FIBA qualifiers. Do take note however that team chemistry may be an issue considering that these players have different mother ball clubs in the PBA. Coach Yeng Guiao’s task is to blend them all into a fluid basketball team in time for their matchup against Kazakhstan on November 30 at the Mall of Asia Arena. The match against Kazakhstan would be a good tune- up for them against a tougher opponent, Iran, on December 3.

Exciting times! Go, Team Pilipinas!
