The Palawan Provincial Police Office ( PPPO) plans to plant 150 trees inside the Camp Higinio A. Mendoza, Jr. in Barangay Tiniguiban as it kicked off its tree planting project Friday. Senior Superintendent Gabriel Lopez, provincial police director, told Palawan News on Friday that they planted 10 Golden Trumpet tree seedlings during the event and 20 more after. “Kanina pong umaga nagkaroon tayo ng tree planting dito sa kampo natin, sa Camp Higinio Mendoza. Nagtanim po tayo nong Golden Trumpet na [ mga] puno. Ito po ay project ng ating provincial government. Itong nga raw ang puno na ito ay pag ýong panahon na siya ay namumulaklak [ ay] kulay gold ýong bulaklak, kaya Golden Trumpet. Magandang tingnan at saka baka makadagdag sa attraction ng ating probinsya,” he said. Lopez said the aim of the tree planting activity is to provide additional trees largely for the benefit of the ecology and beautification. It was Palawan Governor Jose Chavez Alvarez who personally handpicked the species after seeing it be a beautiful tree. Lopez said the tree is prominent in Brazil, but the ones they planted inside the camp were obtained from Bukidnon. “Itong mga itinanim natin ay nanggaling pa raw ng Bukidnon, meron din daw ýan doon at magandang tingnan doon kaya nag- uwi sila dito ng kaniyang pinaka- punla at itinanim,” he said. Lopez said that they still have 120 to be planted in their next tree planting activity. Provincial officials attended the event led by Vice Governor Victorino Dennis Socrates who represented Alvarez, Board Member Marivic Roxas, a representative from the Provincial Tourism Office, and other members of the provincial government.
