Frugal yet generous, a rare breed

People like Chuck Feeney reflect God’s goodness and yet all generous people of the whole world combined are a far cry compared to the generosity of God to us, sending his only begotten Son to save us.

It’s New Year 2019 and people make resolutions. Spending, gaining or saving money seems more widespread that people engage with. Restraining oneself from spending generally connotes saving for oneself now and for the future. What about saving not for oneself but for others? Or being frugal to oneself yet tremendously generous? Here’s a story told about a frugal yet exceptionally generous person: He Lives with his wife in an ordinary rental apartment in San Francisco. He wears unbranded clothing and glasses. His watches are unglamorous. His primary transportation is the bus. He puts personal items in an old plastic bag going to work. But, surprisingly, over the years, he has donated more than $ 8 billion to charitable causes. Who is this man? Well, his name is Chuck Feeney. He is frugal with himself but generous with oth- ers. He likes to make money but is passionate about spending it to help people. He has contributed $ 588 million to Cornell University, $ 125 million to the University of California and $ 60 million to Stanford University. Outside of the United States, he spent $ billion renovating and then building a further seven new universities in Ireland. He founded charity fund to improve cleft lip surgery for children in some countries. Chuck never sought praise for his contributions but opted to remain anonymous. Towards the end of his life, Chuck Feeney’s selfless and outstanding deeds were revealed by the media. When he eventually faced the press and was asked, ” why he chose to donate his wealth to charity?” He simply smiled and said, “People are born naked and then finally die alone.” “No one can carry the wealth and reputation that he him- self has been striving for, and added that; “the corpse cover does not have a bag.” Chuck Feeney has set an example for the rich all over the world. The two great American tycoons, Bill Gates and Warren Buffett have attempted to adopt his way of thinking and strive to follow in his actions. “Think of people while enjoying life at the same time, “( Chuck Feeney).

People like Chuck Feeney reflect God’s goodness and yet all generous people of the whole world combined are a far cry compared to the generosity of God to us, sending his only begotten Son to save us. What’s your New Year’s spending resolution? Maybe consider Chuck Feeney.

On the flip side, someone said that God has your best interest at heart. When a door closes, you don’t know what God is saving for you. God will wreck your plans when he sees that your plans are about to wreck you. Be thankful for closed doors, they often guide us to the right ones. Don’t underestimate what God is doing in your season of waiting. Nothing happens by accident: you are where God wants you to be. Don’t let your emotions be your decision maker. Let God lead you, He can change anything. No matter how alone you are, God is always a prayer away. Don’t worry about other people’s opinion about you. God never told you to impress people; only to love them. Amen on that folks!!
