The Puerto Princesa City International Airport (PPCIA) is among the nine Philippine airports that received “one-star rating” from the United Kingdom-based Official Aviation Guide (OAG) for performing well in terms of overall operation. OAG is an international air travel intelligence company that provides data on air travel information “to provide accurate, timely, actionable digital information and applications to the world’s airlines, air- ports, government agencies, and travel-related service companies.” Palawan Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) chief Percy Malonesio said the star rating the PPCIA received from the OAG was informed to them by their central office. “We are thankful to get this one-star rating out of the many airports we have in the Philippines and in the world. Hindi naman tayo mapapasama sa may star rating kung walang cooperation ng lahat (We would not have been included

in the list of those who got the star rating if not for the cooperation of everyone),” Malonesio told Palawan News on Saturday. The rating was the result of the 2017-2018 OAG on-time performance (OTP) which is defined as “arrivals that take place strictly less than 15 minutes after scheduled arrival time, including cancellations.” “On-time” means “departures and arrivals that take place strictly less than 15 minutes after scheduled departure/arrival time, including cancellations.” Based on available online data provided by the OAG for OTP measured in June 2017 to May 2018, the PPCIA had a 2018 OTP of 58.6 and 13,341 number of operations. Malonesio said this is the second time the PPCIA received the star rating from the OAG; the first was from the OTP 20162017 measurement. “Sana magtuloy-tuloy ang magandang perfor- mance natin. ‘ Yong mga pasahero, pumunta ng mas maaga, lalo na ngayon naka-red alert tayo at thorough ang security checking kaya may konting abala. Kung may delays naman sa flights nila or vice versa sa arrival ng plane, makakaasa sila mas ontime silang mai-inform,” he said. (We hope that our good performance will continue. Passengers should come here early for their flights, especially now that we are on red alert because security checking will be thorough and there will be a little disturbance. If there are delays in their flights or the arrival of their planes, we will inform them ontime.) The highest OAG OTP rating is five stars. The other airports that received the one-star rating are the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), Mactan-Cebu International Airport, and the provincial airports in Iloilo, Bacolod, Cagayan de Oro City, Davao, and Tacloban. Clark International Airport, on the other hand, received a two-star rating.
