NBI warns vs extortion, bribery, other scams

- By Aira Genesa Magdayao Reporter

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in the province has warned local government officials, law enforcement officers, government employees, and the general public against engaging in extortion, bribery, and other forms of money scam.

The warning was issued by NBI special investigator III Cedric Caabay following the arrest on Tuesday of a Coast Guard District Palawan (CGDP) official in an entrapment operation for alleged extortion.

Caabay said their cautionary advice is also because they continue to receive numerous reports about extortion, bribery, and others regarding money scam.

“Maraming nagrereklamo dito about dyan sa ibang mga agency. Sobrang dami pero walang naglalakas ng loob na magpa-conduct ng entrapment,” Caabay said.

He also reminded all government employees to refrain from extortion or accepting bribes.

Caabay said the NBI will not hesitate to intervene in case the complainants will seek their help.

“May kasabihan tayo na if you can’t be good, be careful. Marami naman talaga kaya lang bibihira ang may lakas ng loob na mag-file ng complain nila dito sa amin,” he added.

He also said that government employees are covered by Republic Act 3019 or the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act and Republic Act 6713 or the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees.
