4 women elected mayors in Aklan
KALIBO, Aklan – The province of Aklan will see four women occupying local chief executive positions officially on June 30.
Of these four women, one is a re-electionist, two are on their first political foray and one is a returning public official.
The reelectionist who will be serving on her second term is incumbent Banga mayor Erlinda Maming while the comebacking one i s f ormer Buruanga mayor Concepcion Labindao who, years ago, served her municipality for three terms.
The two new ones include Mayor-elect Shimonette Peralta Francisco of New Washington t own and Mary Lenette Fernandez of Lezo.
Maming ran under the United Nationalist Alliance ( UNA) while the three other women ran under the Liberal Party (LP).
M e a n w h i l e , t w o municipalities here re-elected lady vice mayors – Madeline Regalado of Kalibo and Josephine Equina of Malinao town.
The province, on the other hand, will only have one woman Sangguniang Panlalawigan member – Lillian Q. Tirol who was proclaimed on May 11 by the Provincial Board of Canvassers along with other winners at the Sangguniang Bayan session hall of Kalibo.
Only five women, Tirol included, filed Certificates of Candidacy for Sangguniang Panlalawigan positions – three from the eastern side and two from the western side of the province.
I ncumbent Vice Gov. Gabrielle Calizo- Quimpo, the first lady vice governor of the province, is now in her third and last term. Aklan/ PN)
