MSMEs attend product packaging, labeling workshop the
ILOILO City - The Local Economic and Investment Promotion Office (LEIPO) of
city government held its first packaging and labeling workshop to 30 micro, small and medium entrepreneurs (MSMEs) on April 6.
Mayor J ed Patrick E. Mabilog stressed that the event is part of the city’s strong promotions to help improve MSMEs in the metropolis.
The initiative aimed to help entrepreneurs with product packaging and labeling to make t heir goods more competitive in the market, said LEIPO head Ritchel Gavan.
“We have seen that there is potential for our MSMEs especially for those who ventured into food products. We have a lot of delicacies here, we are known for it and quality wise, we have good products here. But then, when we look at them, they are only wrapped with plastic or cellophane,” explained Gavan.
“They were taught of basic packaging and labeling. They can upgrade the design provided by the lay-out artists or they can adapt it to make it as their official design for their product. Three to four workshops more will be
conducted until they come up with their final output,” she added.
During the workshop, lay-out artists from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-6 helped
the participants to come up with their product packaging and labeling.
This service given is under one of DOST’s core programs, the Small Enterprises Technology Upgrading Program which aims to improve MSMEs’ viability and enhance their competitiveness locally or abroad through the provisions of technical assistance. Meanwhile, the LEIPO, in partnership with the Department of Agriculture, will also be conducting product development to MSMEs in public markets.
