Crashes kill guards

BACOLOD City – Security guards were killed in separate motorcycle crashes in Negros Occidental.

Jaime Dio, 48, of Hacienda Village, Murcia town was trying to overtake a truck loaded with sugarcane when the Kawasaki motorcycle he was driving fell on the road and slid underneath the bigger vehicle along Airport Road in Barangay 4, Silay City, police said.

Dio was about to get past the truck when he saw a portion of the road under constructi­on ahead and slowed down, investigat­ion led by Senior Police Officer 4 Rodrigo Asparo of the Traffic Section showed.

But the motorcycle hit the side of the truck, causing it to fall. Dio and his vehicle were crushed by the rear tires of the cargo truck, police said.

The incident occurred past 7 p.m. on Monday.

Truck driver Al John Gregorio, 27, of Barangay Bagtic, Silay City was headed to Central Hawaiian at the time. He turned himself in to the police.

In Barangay 6, Victorias City, the 39-year-old Dominic Embo of Barangay Caduhaan, Cadiz City was driving the motorcycle that crashed into a concrete fence along Osmeña Avenue around 3 a.m. on Tuesday.

Embo was rushed to two health facilities before he was taken to the Corazon Locsin Monteliban­o Memorial Regional Hospital, where he was declared “dead on arrival” around 4:33 a.m.

Police said Embo was headed to his post in a hospital in Bacolod City at the time. He tried to avoid a portion of the road under repair in front of the Bureau of Internal Revenue building but lost control of the motorcycle./
