Korean nabbed for ‘child abuse’

BACOLOD City – A Korean national was charged with violation of t he Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitati­on and Discrimina­tion Act.

The 48-year-old Lee Seung Jae was arrested on Zamora Street, Barangay Poblacion, Zamboangui­ta, Negros Oriental.

Specifical­ly, Lee was accused of violating Section 5 (b) (sexual i ntercourse of l ascivious conduct with a child exploited in prostituti­on or subject to other sexual abuse), which comes with the penalty of imprisonme­nt of up to 40 years.

Judge Maria Angelita A. Banta-Alcoran of the Regional Tri a l Court Branch 37 ( Dumaguete City) issued the warrant of arrest against the suspect and recommende­d a P200,000 bail bond.

After his arrest around 4:30 p.m. on May 21, the Korean was hauled to the Zamboangui­ta police station lockup cell./

BACOLOD City – Two people died while another was injured after two unidentifi­ed gunmen fired at them during a fiesta in Sitio Bonbon, Barangay Inayawan, Cauayan, Negros Occidental, police said.

Farmer Uldarico Alipan, 45, and Winnie Villanueva, 44 — both locals — died of multiple gunshot wounds on the body.

Villanueva’s son George, 25, was hit on the stomach and back. He was taken to the Corazon Locsin Monteliban­o Memorial Regional Hospital here.
