65 Guimaras brgys get P100-T projects

-

ILOILO–Sixty-five bar an gay sin the island province of Guimaras qualified to receive P100,000 worth of developmental projects each from the provincial government.

The projects will serve as their incentive after winning the Guimaras Good Governance Seal for Barangays (3GSG), a partnership project between capitol and t he Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) provincial office.

Unique to Guimaras, the 3GSG was patterned after the DILG’s Seal of Good Local Governance program, which covers only provinces, cities and municipalities, Interior department provincial director Roy Defiño said on Monday.

It utilized the DILG’s Barangay Performance Management System only that it was enhanced and added the barangay child- friendly criteria as indicators, he explained.

“The criteria created by the DILG were based on basic services and facilities mandated bylaws and issuances that they should provide to their constituents. Passing the seal means they are practicing good governance,” said Defiño.

Seventy- four barangays qualified at the municipal assessment committee level but only 65 made it during the provincial- level evaluation. But there were more qualifiers this year than the 45 last year.

The barangays received their seals and checks on May 21, but the fund will be released only upon submission of their project proposals. (
