Iloilo football clubs reign over 400 other teams in Ceres-Negros Cup

n rt football teams showed their prowess after winning a handful of categories in the 4th Ceres- Negros Football Club Cup on Sunday at Talisay, Negros Occidental.

Sta. Barbara l eaned on Loren Soriano to capture the Ladies’ 19 title by beating the Cadiz Football Club. Meanwhile, Barotac Nuevo Football United and Colegio de Sto. Tomas- Recoletos captured the silver and bronze medals.

Fellow Iloilo squad Jaro Football Club topped the Boys’ 13 category with Benj Lustica being declared the MVP. Barotac Nuevo ruled the Boys’ 14 category by beating the Negros Occidental team on penalties. Kent Brian Valen was named the MVP.

Tamasak Football Club of Iloilo also lorded in the Boys’ 12 division, winning over the Negros Selection in the championsh­ip match. Kent dela Peña was hailed as the MVP awardee.

Aside from the Iloilo-based teams, football clubs from Negros Occidental also ruled the two-day football event, which drew a record 465 football team from all over the country this year.

Don Bosco Victorias ruled the Mixed 9 category with Joshua Padilla hailed as MVP. Sagay City leaned on the exploits Gebeth Estember to capture the championsh­ip in Girls’ 13.

Negros-based squads also ruled the Boys’ 18 and Men 40 with the Eugene de Arce- led Colegio de Santo Tomas - Recoletos winning the boys’ title and the Norman Fegidero–led Bacolod United FC A clinching the Mens’ title.

The University of St. La Salle- Bacolod defended the Mens’ 40 title with a 2-1 win over South Korea’s Football Story, while San Carlos City won the Girls’ 16 edition by edging the Miriam College.

The tournament played simultaneo­us matches at the Carlos Hilado State College Football Field, Santa Maria Football Field, and North Football Field, which also served as the venue for the semifinals and finals matches.
