PHYSICAL education is an integral part of the total education of every child starting from kindergarten to college. It helps promote the p hy s i c a l , m e n t a l , e m o t i o n a l , social, and moral- spiritual aspects of a child through a well- selected program of physical activities. The well-planned and well-implemented physical education programs are vital to increase the physical competence, skill and health-related fitness, selfconfidence, enjoyment, and discipline for all students to achieve a quality and active life.

There are so many benefits a physical education class can provide to every learner. Firstly, it improved student’s health related physical fitness such as students’ muscular strength, flexibility, muscular endurance, body composition and cardiovascular endurance through a wide-range of well-selected activities for all children. Secondly, skill development which develops motor skills that allows safe and satisfying participation in any physical activities. Thirdly, it serves as a laboratory for application of content in science, math and other subject areas. Likewise, students also given a chance to assume leadership and learn to cooperate in different physical activities.

Physical activities become an outlet for releasing tension and anxiety and even promote emotional stability. Physical education can be a major force in helping children socializes with others successfully and provide opportunities to learn positive skills. Specifically during late childhood and adolescence, being able to participate in dances, games and sports is an important part of peer culture. Furthermore, physical education instills a stronger sense of self-worth in children based on their mastery of skills and concepts in physical activity. They can become more confident, assertive, independent, and self- motivated. Physical education provides children the opportunity to set and strive for

personal and achievable goals.

Physical education helps introduce your child to a variety of sports, games that involve physical activity, and they are able to spend time just playing on the playground. Aside from participating in physical education classes, parents should also help incorporate ways for their child to exercise outside of school too. Additional exercise will help kids meet the recommended minimum of 60 minutes a day engaging in physical activity (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). Adequate exercise helps strengthen your child’s heart and keep them healthy. They also need more than one break during the day away from learning to be able to focus in the classroom.

Physical education class gives children the opportunity to burn off their excess energy so that they don’t have pent up energy. Pent up energy often leaves them fidgeting and inattentive – defeating the purpose of increased classroom time.

In today’s setup physical educators play a vital role to provide maximum physical activity within the class period, teach skills and activities, motivate children to be physically active, and develop a physically active lifestyle. ( Paid article)
