Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs important in hospitality
MASLOW’S Hierarchy of Needs was proposed by Abraham Maslow. It enumerates the different needs that make people feel complete and serve as motivation on how people behave.
There are five stages: physiological, safety, love/belonging, esteem, and selfactualization. We can use these stages in being hospitable to tourists.
When it comes to physiological needs, we can help in presenting the province as a place where some, if not all, the basic needs are cheaper than other places.
In terms of safety, we do not have much of a problem because the crimes reported in mainstream media are mostly petty crimes and person-versusperson case.
Love/ belonging and esteem are generally easy for us to give because we are a hospitable people. We also have to address people as “sir” or “ma’am” and be mindful of gestures and perspectives that other cultures find offensive in order to make the corresponding adjustments.
For self- actualization, loving and respecting the tourists and the locals really helps because making the tourists feel loved and respected leaves a good impression. And when we love and
respect the locals with or without the tourists, we will consistently have the habit of being loving and respectful. This, in turn, makes the tourists realize that we are loving and respectful because this is simply who we are as a people.
Also, we can use the individual’s pursuit of career development and other forms of self-enhancement to our advantage because we have different venues to hold career development activities like seminars, trainings, and team building such as convention centers and venues where people can seek help such as Meditation Hills in Sapian, Capiz
and the giant Sacred Heart of Jesus statue in Barangay Dinginan, Roxas City.
We can then present our natural tourist sites such as beaches, including those with white sand and clear waters.
We can also promote spas, gardens, places for nature trips, and other relaxing places, as well as restaurants that the tourists can go to in their spare time.
One thing that can help promote the province of Capiz is Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs because marketing is about matching what you can offer to what your target market needs./
