NegOcc crop loss reaches P4.9M

BACOLOD City – Rice production loss in Negros Occidental already reached P4.862 million as of Wednesday, the Office of the Provincial Agricultur­ist (OPA) reported.

The crop loss was due to the storm-enhanced monsoon rains that hit the province over the weekend.

The OPA reported on Monday the crop damage reaching P3.8 million, affecting the cities of San Carlos, Cadiz and Bago, and the town of Moises Padilla.

From 713 farmers affected shown in OPA’s initial report, the number rose to 761 – with almost 800 hectares of rice fields damaged.

San Carlos City still has the

biggest loss pegged at P2.1

million, 680 hectares with 646 of farmers rice fields and affected.

Cadiz City followed with P1.474- million damage, affecting 55 farmers and 54 hectares of rice fields.

Bago City , dubbed as the “rice granary” of Negros Occidental, incurred a total

loss of P1.264 million, with 57 farmers and 64 hectares of rice fields affected.

On Monday, OPA pegged Bago’s crop damage at only P192,240.

In Moises Padilla, three farmers and their 10.68-hectare rice field were affected, with a total crop loss of P24,299. ( PNA/ PN)
