113 NPA supporters renounce rebels‘
BACOLOD City – One- hundred thirteen sympathizers of the New People’s Army ( NPA) in Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental have renounced their support to the revolutionary movement, according to the Philippine Army.
The 303rd Infantry Brigade based in Murcia, Negros Occidental said two groups of rebel supporters took their oath of allegiance to the government last week.
The groups were composed of 27 individuals from Barangay Mahalang and 86 from Barangay Buenavista – both in Himamaylan – the Army added.
Colonel Alberto Desoyo, commander of the 303rd Infantry Brigade, said he was grateful for the decision of the former rebel supporters.
“The people are starting to realize the true objective of the terrorist organization, which is to sow terror and hinder progress,” Desoyo added.
He urged parents to advise their children to avoid NPA’s recruitment.
The former rebel supporters said they were “deceived” by the NPA by urging them to form people’s organizations and contribute revolutionary taxes, the Army said.
Lieutenant Colonel Egberto Dacoscos, commander of the 62nd Infantry Battalion, lauded those who “stood up against the terrorist organization and their criminal activities.”
Dacoscos was the one who facilitated the renouncement ceremony of the rebel supporters.
He said the close coordination among government agencies, local government units and the public led to the rebel supporter’s change of heart. (
