DA-WV gives livelihood support to urban farmers

ILOILO City – To help farmers increase their income amid the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic, five farmers here get 15 head of goats from the Department of Agriculture (DA) Western Visayas.

Beneficiaries from districts of Mandurriao and Jaro received one packet which is composed of two does and one buck. These are intended for breeding and roll- over scheme. Such will be adopted by the farmers to sustain the project for the next- in- line beneficiaries.

DA regional technical director for operations and extension Rene Famoso graced the ceremonial turn-over held at Iloilo City Dinagyang Grandstand on April 16.

After the turn- over, DA agricultural program coordination officer for Iloilo Ernie Villanueva conducted a lecture about goat raising. “Ang pagsagod sang sapat daku guid ya mabulig kapin pa subong nga pigado tungod sang pandemya. Tapos ako may edad na kag uma lang guid ang pangabuhian, daku guid

This livelihood support initiative is funded under the savings of the Typhoon Ursula Rehabilitation Program of the DA-WV.

This is a continuation of the department’s livelihood support for the city government’s urban and integrated farming projects that aims to promote communal gardening among urban villagers as a long-term solution to food insufficiency amid the pandemic.DA-6/
