3,060 vote-counting machines will be used in Iloilo on May 9

ILOILO – A total of 3,060 vote- counting machines ( VCMs) will be used in this province and Iloilo City on May 9 for the synchroniz­ed national and local elections.

The delivery of the VCMs to 43 towns, the component city of Passi and Iloilo City was completed on April 26, according to Commission on Elections’ ( Comelec) provincial election supervisor Atty. Ian Lee Ananoria.

The VCMs were distribute­d to the following towns: Ajuy (61), Alimodian (63), Anilao (33), Badiangan (36), Balasan ( 38), Banate ( 39), Barotac Nuevo ( 65), Barotac Viejo ( 52), Batad ( 32), Bingawan (19), Cabatuan (82), Calinog (80), Carles (79), Concepcion ( 51), Dingle ( 53), Dueñas (53), Dumangas (83), Estancia ( 57), Guimbal ( 46), Igbaras (52), Janiuay (83), Lambunao ( 88), Leganes ( 40), Lemery (40), Leon (97), Maasin (57), Miag- ao ( 130), Mina ( 31),

New Lucena (33), Oton (87), Pavia (60), Pototan (81), San Dionisio ( 47), San Enrique ( 44), San Joaquin ( 94), San Miguel (39), San Rafael (20), Santa Barbara (84), Sara (64), Tigbauan ( 82), Tubungan (50), and Zarraga (34).

The component city of Passi City received 96 VCMs while Iloilo City got 505.

Election offices will be testing the VMCs – which are now stored in safe locations – on May 6 and May 7, said Ananoria.

He declined to say where the VCMs are stored “for security reasons.”

VCMs that may be used in case of technical glitches.

“May requiremen­t nga one VCM per one clustered precinct but there are some cases that in one voting center there are several clustered precincts,” added Ananoria.
