Social development and education: A way to progress
By: Johnn nelbeRT Dela CRUZ
Education is a vital tool for social progress since it contributes to the betterment of the human condition through increased knowledge, health, living conditions, social fairness, and productivity. Education is expected to promote social progress in four ways: humanistic, by fully developing individual and collective human virtues; civic, by enhancing public life and active participation in a democratic society; economic, by providing individuals with intellectual and practical skills that enable them to be productive and improve their and society’s living conditions; and social, by fostering social equity.
One of the most evident signs of social development is the expansion of formal education, which coincided with the establishment of nation states and modern economies. Education’s development resulted in a complicated web of institutions that were placed along diverse courses along the way.
The world evolves and so is the educational system. Consequently, the social development. The government has tried its hardest to provide for our basic right such as education. It has initiated and continuously develop programs that that will alleviate the poor’s moral and societal conditions.
As a teacher who used to rely on my family’s help in financial aspect, I did not know then how hard it was to support growing students with growing bills. Everyday consumption was hard enough to gain, much more when you carry the burden of financing a student. The moment I faced the reality myself, I came to realized how important education really is. And the more I appreciated the social services initiated by the government to make amends on the way of living of most Filipinos. Social development and education go hand in hand. You can have an easy full access on perks and advantages in life when you have full education. As sad as it may seem, educational attainment matters when seeking a job. The higher the level you have finished, the greater the opportunity you will land on.
Education itself has developed too because mostly of technology. As well as the system when K12 was implemented. Gadgets, social media platforms, and internet became necessities. The world has changed but the end goal stays the same.
