- By Glenda Tayona

ILOILO City – The city government hopes to have cleared all its 180 barangays of illegal drugs by end of this year.

According to Mayor Jerry Treñas, at the moment 93 barangays (51.67 percent) have been cleared.

“Mabulobudlay ang pag- clear sang kabaranggayan but gintutokan gid sugod pagpungko ko,” said Treñas.

Barangay Jalandoni-Bagumbayan in the City Proper was the most recent barangay to be officially declared as drug- cleared. This was during Wednesday last week’s 37th deliberation of the Regional Oversight Committee ( ROC) in the campaign against drugs.

Treñas cited barangays officials, the Philippine National Police (PNP),

Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), and City Health Office (CHO) for their drug-clearing efforts.

PDEA vowed to closely collaborate with these agencies to increase the number of barangays to be cleared through proper implementation of t he Dangerous Drug Board (DDB) Regulation and the Omnibus Procedures in Declaring a DrugAffected Barangay as Drug- Cleared as well as in the conduct of validation and verification to ensure that the drug-cleared status is maintained./
