Liquor ban starts Sunday

I LOILO Ci t y – The Commission on Elections’ ( Comelec) election- related liquor ban will start on May 8 until the polls end on May 9.

Under Comelec Resolution No. 10746, drinking in public places is prohibited.

Hotels, resorts, restaurant­s, and other establishm­ents are not allowed to sell, furnish, offer, buy, serve, or take intoxicati­ng liquor.

Foreign t ourists are exempted from the liquor ban, according to the Comelec, but hotels, resorts, restaurant­s, and other establishm­ents that cater to foreign tourists will only be allowed to operate if they have a prior written authority from election officers in their areas.

Violators of the liquor ban faces imprisonme­nt of not less than one year but not more than six years and shall not be subject to probation.

In addition, the guilty party shall be disqualifi­ed to hold public office and deprived of the right of suffrage.

“Madali man lang ang liquor ban. We must follow Comelec. Whoever makita sang aton pulis nga naga inom sa higad dalan kag other public places will be arrested. Establishm­ents selling liquor will be sanctioned,” said Police Lieutenant Colonel Solis, spokespers­on of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6)./
