POPULAR Ilonggo businessman and civic leader Jojo Ang was spotted on Tuesday night at the rally of presidentiable Bongbong Marcos in Guimbal, Iloilo.

There were some who got puzzled, considering his affiliation – he is the first nominee of Uswag Ilonggo party-list.

To set the record straight, Jojo issued a statement of clarification. He was there for his friend who is a cousin of Bongbong. Here’s the statement in toto:

“Cong. Martin Romualdez is a long-time personal friend who visited our province. For the record, we didn’t meet about politics or about the campaign. Now, some may put malice in this pure gesture between two friends, I can’t blame them. That’s part of politics.

“But we at Uswag Ilonggo is a multi-sectoral representation, a regional party-list. Our representation is not based on political affiliation, color or preferences. Uswag Ilonggo is for the whole Region 6. In Congress, we will champion what will benefit all Ilonggos. We do not represent any political party. We represent Ilonggo families.”

So there. The ever good-natured Toto Jojo was just being hospitable and friendly – hallmarks of a true Ilonggo gentleman.

Uswag Ilonggo party-list has, indeed, made the right decision to select him as its No. 1 nominee, together with the equally civic-minded and hardworking Raisa Treñas as No. 2 nominee. With public service in their blood, both of them will ably champion the interests and welfare of the Ilonggos.

Toto Jojo and Inday Raisa will promote the well-being of every Ilonggo family; ensure proper healthcare for the poor; push for programs on infrastructure and tourism, agriculture and fisheries; and promote education, especially more scholarships for the youth.

In the latest Pulse Asia survey, Uswag Ilonggo is among the top party-lists in the country. The future bright for the Ilonggos.
