IPBT: A professional development for teachers

What is professional development? As teachers, do we need to update ourselves with processes and procedures to teach effectively to our learners? The Department of Education recently posted memorandum no. 024, s 2022 on the Pilot implementation of the Induction program for beginning teachers (Enhanced Teacher Induction Program for the school year 2021-2022). DepEd is committed to providing integrated professional development programs for teachers and school leaders through the National Educators Academy of the Philippines (NEAP). NEAP undertakes the development, design, and delivery of such programs, including those intended for beginning teachers. In line with this, NEAP issues a memorandum on the Pilot Implementation of Induction Program for beginning Teachers (IPBT).
This is to streamline the processes and practices vis-à-vis the draft implementing Guidelines for IPBT. This is to guide the beginning teachers to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of DepEd’s vision, goals, and strategic directions: systems and processes, school policies and procedures, and teacher rights and responsibilities. Also, to articulate and apply knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values (KSAVs) required of beginning teachers as specified in PPST and DepEd core values. Further, to improve practice towards career progression based on set professional development goals. The IPBT will serve as the foundation for the professional development of beginning teachers and, subsequently, for the improvement of student learning.
With this, teachers can now update themselves and improve their knowledge and skills to enhance their competence, make them efficient and confident, and eventually commit themselves to nurturing every learner and become passionate about teaching. The IPBT is a win-win for both the educator and learner, for they both benefit from it in the best way possible. A successful program undergoes monitoring and evaluation, which is the basis of improvement and recommendations. Therefore, a teacher needs to be professionally aware and instill in their hearts and minds the need to progress oneself to foster the learners’ skills and abilities.( Contributed article)
