Man faces raps for ‘violating’ liquor ban
BORACAY – A 39-year-old man was apprehended for violating the liquor ban in the early morning of May 8 in Barangay Balabag here.
Kirby Adriato was residing at Zone 5, Sitio Bolabog, Barangay Balabag.
He was originally reported to the police for failing to pay his ordered alcoholic beverage and was observed to be under the influence of intoxicating liquor.
The liquor ban started at 12:01 a.m. on May 8 and was set to end at 11:59 p.m. of May 9 as stated in the Commission on Elections (Comelec) Resolution No. 10695. During this period, selling, furnishing, offering, buying, serving, or taking intoxicating liquor were prohibited.
The Western Visayas top cop, Police Brigadier General Flynn Dongbo, directed all police commanders across the region to strictly implement the liquor ban.
“Maximize the conduct of preventive patrol and police visibility in your areas of responsibility and ensure that all election-related directives are implemented. Make sure that the people in every community are protected and secured,” said Dongbo.
According to the Omnibus Election Code (Article XXII, Section 264), “any person found guilty of any election offense…shall be punished with imprisonment of not less than one year but not more than six years and shall not be subject to probation.”
Dongbo urged the public to abide by the rules during this election period./
