IN BACOLOD: ALBEE IN, BING OUT
MAYOR-elect Albee Benitez brings a whiff of fresh air to Bacolod City. He is young, energetic and forward-looking.
Bacolodnons are excited for themselves in the next three years. Albee has promised, among others, better governance, a more efficient delivery of basic services, and more investments coming which would generate more jobs and revenues for the city.
The huge gap in the number of votes between Mayor-elect Albee and reelectionist Mayor Bing Leonardia shows that Bacolodnons are opening themselves up to a new brand of governance and leadership that Albee offers.
As for Mayor Bing, he has nothing to be ashamed of. There is no disputing the fact that under his leadership, Bacolod progressed by leaps and bounds. He was mayor from 1995 to 1998, and from 2004 to 2013. He became Bacolod’s congressman from 2013 to 2016, then elected as mayor again from 2016 to 2022. Through all those years, Bacolod grew and developed into a premier city. That Mayor Bing failed in his reelection bid this year does not mean he’s not a good mayor. It is just that perhaps the people of Bacolod want a new perspective in governance. Say mo, Cong. Greg? Newks “dies-dies” laughing!
